What's different from the US

  • Antibiotics (amoxicillin, azithromycin). OTC in Mexico — but ask the doctor at Similares first if you're unsure.
  • Ivermectin, metronidazole. OTC for traveler's diarrhea / parasites. Doctor consult ~50 MXN.
  • Tramadol, codeine. Controlled — needs prescription. Don't try to take across the border.
  • Pseudoephedrine (Sudafed). Restricted in Mexico — bring your own if needed.
  • Birth control pills. Most are OTC and a fraction of US prices.
  • Sunscreen (reef-safe). Limited selection — bring your own. Required for cenotes & reefs.

Bring your prescription bottles if you're traveling with controlled meds. Pharmacies will dispense generics by molecule name — Tylenol = paracetamol, Advil = ibuprofeno.
